David Hanson served as Founder, CEO and Chairman of Chieftain Sand and Proppant after 15 years in the private equity business. His responsibilities at Chieftain included senior team building, strategy, capital formation, business development, green-fielding of a 1,000 acre, $65mm production and mining facility with two processing plants and over three miles of rail infrastructure, operations, and execution of the strategic plan. From startup in 2009, the Company grew to over $150mm in run rate revenues in 2014 with high free cash flows.

David has been involved in corporate management and financing companies his entire career in a wide variety of private equity and venture capital investments, merger and acquisition transactions, and public and private debt and equity financings, including IPOs, for private and public companies in a number of industries. David has worked at the investment banking firms, Drexel Burnham and Volpe Welty & Company, and the private equity firms, Rockmont Capital and Lynwood Capital. David has sourced, structured and managed private equity investments and served on the boards of manufacturing, distribution and services companies. 

David has served on private company and non-profit Boards for enterprises with sales of $1 million to over $1 billion.  Currently, he is a Board member of UPF Services (services), Peak15 (SaaS), Chieftain (natural resources and materials processing), and The Children’s Hospital investment committee (healthcare services non-profit).  

While serving on the Board of Directors of The Children’s Hospital for nine years until term limited, David was chairperson of the investment, planning and facilities, and finance committees, and served on the executive and new hospital committees, during the planning, financing, construction and move-in to a new $600mm hospital campus, and expansion of its regional healthcare network.

David has domain expertise in Board of Directors matters, including financings, audits, risk and insurance, IT, compensation, strategy, regulatory and compliance, capital allocation, leadership development, and governance.

David has a dual degree from Yale University in economics and engineering.
